O The Baltic Jazz festival, during its history, has taken place during the height of summer in the Turku archipelago. During the times of its beginning in 1987, the festival was a small local event, which took place amidst a small group of jazz and archipelago connoisseurs. Since its modest beginning, Baltic Jazz has grown into a multifaceted and more and more international jazz festival. Nowadays, the festival continuously brings new visitors. Baltic Jazz, in the process of its growth and development, has become one of the most significant jazz festivals of Finland, while preserving the friendly, family atmosphere it had in its beginning. This aspect is something that the arrangers of the festival especially try to preserve. The Interest Group for Jazz Music in Dalsbruk r.f. was founded in 1999 with the purpose to take over the arrangements of the festival. The Baltic Jazz festival is the core responsibility of the organisation and its primary function, but it also covers other functions as well. It arranges concerts in schools, day care centers, etc. as an important music educator on Kemiö island. The Baltic Jazz Festival, in accordance with its name, focuses on the Baltic area. A large part of the performers come from Finland, Sweden, the Baltic Countries, Russia, and from ex-Soviet countries, and this will continue on into the future. Baltic Jazz is an island festival, to which you can come by car or boat. During the weekend, there will be over twenty concerts where high quality, traditional jazz music will be offered for the whole family in the middle of the unique factory area of Dalsbruk. |
